Automatic protection of Kola NPP came into action because of power line cuts in Karelia

The automatics came into action because of power line cuts in Karelia caused by a thunderstorm. The shutdown was carried out in accordance with the specified procedure. At 10:27 TG-2 was connected to the power grid.
At present power units Nos. 1, 2 of Kola NPP are in operation. The dispatch load schedule is 863 mW. No violations of limits and conditions of power unit safe operation have been found.
The radiation environment in Kola NPP territoryand in the 30 km control area does not differ from the natural environmental background.
Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Kola NPP is located 200 km southwards from Murmansk on the shore of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 was commissioned in 1973. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. The type of reactor is VVER-440. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
