For the first time Russia has decommissioned its nuclear facility to the «green field» state

It is Russia’s first implemented project on decommissioning of a civil object of industrial production to the «green field» state (i.e. to such state when the territory does not constitute any danger and can be used for industrial or other purposes).
The protocol on elimination of the shop floor with a nuclear installation was signed by Rosatom State Corporation and Krasnoyarsk Territory in 2006. For 4 years since that time, the nuclear specialists have dismantled production, dismounted the building and replaced part of the soil. The fact that the object was located within the city line imposed additional restrictions and higher levels of security requirements. The volume of project investments amounted to about 656 million rubles from Rosatom funds and the federal budget.
The acquired experience will be used at other facilities of the Fuel Company, which has scheduled decontamination, conservation works and maintaining a safe state of storages up to 2020.
Head of Rosatom Design Office «Development of a System of SNF Handling and Decommissioning of Radioactive Dangerous Objects» Evgeny Kudryavtsev said: «We are absolutely confident that all works has been successfully performed. In future the gained experience will be used in the nuclear industry. The obtained „green field“ is ready for further use without any restrictions.”
Sergei Svinarenko, Executive Director of the Directorate of Nuclear, Radiation, Industrial safety and Ecology of TVEL OJSC, said that in the near future the documents will be sent to Rostekhnadzor in order to resolve the issue on removing the site from the regulatory oversight.
