The electricity production of Enefit Green’s wind farms remained high in March

To put it context – 122 GWh of electricity is enough to power nearly 40,000 households with an average consumption level for a year.

According to Aavo Kärmas, Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Green, two variables affect the production of electricity from wind – the wind speed and the technical reliability of the turbines.

‘Thanks to our consistent work in ensuring the reliability of our wind farms and the favourable and stable wind conditions, the first months of the year have resulted in excellent wind power production for Enefit Green. Great production numbers bring our parent company, Eesti Energia, closer to its goal of producing 40 per cent of electricity from renewable and alternative sources in 2022,’ Kärmas said.

Enefit Green has a total of 20 wind farms with 165 turbines in Estonia and Lithuania. The total capacity of the wind farms is 398 megawatts.

All in all, the total electricity production of Enefit Green was 138 GWh in March – a level similar to that of February. This number also includes the production volumes of the Iru, Paide, Valka, and Brocēni power plants, the Keila-Joa hydroelectric power plant, the Ruhnu renewable energy solution, and solar power plants.

Enefit Green is a renewable energy company owned by Eesti Energia. The company produces electricity and heat from wind, water, biomass, solar energy, and municipal waste in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. In addition, Enefit Green owns a pellet factory in Latvia.

In November 2018, the company acquired Nelja Energia, a renewable energy producer in the Baltics. Following the acquisition, the electricity production of Enefit Green increased almost threefold, exceeding 1 TWh per year. Today, the company employs over 140 people.
