Enel Russia and Murmansk Region Government signed cooperation agreement

The agreement was signed by Carlo Palasciano Villamagna, Enel Russia’s General Director and Marina Vasilyevna Kovtun, the Governor of the Murmansk Region, against the backdrop of the exhibition and conference, “SevTEC: Northern Fuel and Energy Complex” held in the region as part of the Murmansk International Business Week.
Carlo Palasciano Villamagna, General Director of Enel Russia, said: “The agreement that we have signed today represents a major opportunity for the company and the Murmansk region itself in terms of fostering growth through sustainable activities. Enel Russia contributes to the diversification of the country’s generation mix by implementing green energy projects.”
“For the Murmansk region Government the current signing of the cooperation agreement with Enel Russia has a particular importance as it marks an intermediate result of the great work we have done. I am absolutely confident in the success of the project and I hope that it will give a start to the further widespread implementation of "green" energy in the Murmansk region” — Governor of the Murmansk Region Marina Vasilyevna Kovtun commented.
The wind farm in the Murmansk region will be located along the road Murmansk - Tumanny - Teriberka, and will involve an estimated investment of around 273 million euros. The wind farm will be able to generate around 750 GWh annually, while avoiding the high amount of CO2 emission into the atmosphere.
Enel Rus Wind Kola, a fully-owned subsidiary of Enel Russia, will be in charge of implementing the project in the Murmansk region, while project construction will be carried out by Enel Green Power, the Enel Group's global renewable energy business line. Technological partner, Siemens Gamesa will supply the turbines used in the project.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Enel Russia and the Murmansk Region’s Government within the framework of the wind project’s implementation. The deal is also aimed at fostering an increase in the economic potential of the region through the creation of new, high-tech industrial facilities and infrastructure in the renewable sector. Furthermore, the agreement is also aimed at developing skills and expertise in the renewable field among the local workforce.
In June 2017, following the Russian Government tender for the construction of 1.9 GW of wind capacity, Enel Russia was awarded two wind projects with an installed capacity of 201 MW and 90 MW, respectively located in Murmansk and Azov regions.
